I call this series of photos “The Death of a Dream”!

Let me explain:  many moons ago, I was finding I was having tuning stability trouble with this guitar, a 2007 Custom Shop Ltd Ed. Relic.

I couldn’t find any specific “issues” that were causing the tuning instability, so as an experiment I replaced the stock and heavily relic-ed tuners with a new set of Gotoh Vintage Locking tuners (it’s a direct swap…no need for new holes!), because I had had such a good experience with them on one of my other Strats.

Long story short…they didn’t help.  So I decided to put the originals back on.  And that process is what we see in the photos above.

Also: one great thing about this guitar is the DARK rosewood.  I like all kinds of fret board woods, but dark rosewood is my favourite!

J.R.R. Tolkien’s reply to a fan letter:

Dear Julie,

Thank you very much for your nice letter, I was very pleased that you wrote to tell me you enjoyed The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. As for writing more about the same characters, I have written almost all there is to write about them. But I hope you will recognize some of the characters in another book I am busy writing, called The Silmarillion, which I hope will soon be finished.

Please give my best wishes to your family and sister, it sounds as if I have many friends amongst them.

Tolkien died ten years later with The Silmarillion still unfinished.
